PACE Secretary General has sent a letter to Levon Ter-Petrosyan

Secretary General of the Council of Europe Thorbjorn Jagland has sent a letter to Armenian first President and leader of the opposition movement Armenian National Congress (HAK) Levon Ter-Petrosyan.

In the latter, dated to July 2, 2010, Mr Thorbjorn thanks Ter-Petrosyan for the letter that HAK addressed to Mr Thorbjorn concerning the reforms in Armenia following a statement by Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe (PACE) co-rapporteurs.

"Council of Europe, PACE in particular, continues to actively be concerned about the democratic issues in Armenia. As you know Armenia continues to remain under the monitoring procedures of the PACE after the adoption of the PACE 1677 (2009) resolution. So, you can be sure that the Assembly will highly be interested especially in how Armenia surmounts the political crisis and consequences of the 2008 March events," reads the letter.

Further Mr Jagland mentions that the Council of Europe has always clearly shown its willingness to cooperate with authorities in an attempt to help them in legislative, administrative and judicial issues.

Then Mr Jagland assures Levon Ter-Petrosyan that the Council of Europe is committed to its full respect to the rule of law, as well as to ensure the protection of the rights of all the citizens of Armenia.
