Turkish parliament ratifies nuclear power plant agreement

Turkish parliament on Thursday ratified an agreement signed between Ankara and Moscow this year.

The agreement envisages the construction of Turkey's first-ever nuclear power plant in Mediterranean port of Mersin in Akkuyu area.
It is expected to have 4,800 megawatt capacity.

According to Turkish NTV TV channel the first block of the NPP is planned to be put into execution in 7 years, while the rest three will follow at one year's interval.

The agreement on the construction was signed in mid-May during Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's official visit to Ankara.
