Georgia and Azerbaijan to export electricity to Turkey and Iran

Azerbaijan and Georgina intend exporting electricity to Turkey and Iran, Azerbaijani Minister of Industry Natik Aliyev said on Sunday in the Georgian resort town of Batumi in the framework a one-day working visit to Georgia.

The Azerbaijani delegation was headed by President Ilham Aliyev.

"This is one of our main projects; a 500km-long electric wire is being constructed for its implementation," said Natik Aliyev, adding that Azerbaijan and Georgia will be able to export electricity to Turkey and Iran once the project is ready.

Georgian Prime Minister Nika Gilauri in turn said that Georgia has already started the construction of the wire of which only some 18 kilometers remain to be completed.

"This is a very important project that will allow us exporting the surplus of electricity mainly during summer," said Gilauri.
