Thanks to Mr Ilham Aliyev the statement in Almaty is beneficial to Armenia: Stepan Grigoryan

The recent statement by the foreign ministers of the OSCE Co-Chair states adopted in Almaty, Kazakhstan, testifies to the fact that the Nagorno Karabakh is under the focus of world powers, Head of the Centre for Globalisation and Regional Cooperation Stepan Grigoryan told a press conference today.

In his words the whole essence of those documents is that it clearly stipulates that it is the Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents that are fully accountable for the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement.

"Eventually, it is those countries [Armenia and Azerbaijan] that must solve the issue," said Grigoryan, adding that simply put the statement said that no one should expect the OSCE Co-Chair states to artificially accelerate the process or exert pressure on one of the parties.

According to Grigoryan the second important element in that statement is that it rules out the settlement of the conflict by separating any of the main three principles.

"Here Ilham Aliyev played a significant role for Armenians. I thank Ilham Aliyev, he surpassed the limits. This statement would have not been made in this form … should he [Aliyev] have made only one bellicose statement. But he really surpassed the limits and made quite tough statements during his latest three or four speeches," said he, adding that that is why the foreign ministers of the OSCE Co-Chair states had to include the provision that the Karabakh conflict can be resolved only through peaceful means.
