Settlement of Karabakh conflict is dependent on Russia: Shevardnadze

The settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh conflict as well as all other regional conflicts is dependent on Russia’s approach, former Georgian president Eduard Shevardnadze said in an interview with the local Azerbaijani news website 1news.az as he commented on Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev’s recent visit to Georgia.

Referring to a recent statement by the leader of the Cuban revolution Fidel Castro who said he did not exclude military actions against Iran, Shevardnadze said: “Fidel is an intelligent person, but he is very ill recently, that is why it is very difficult to believe in his forecasts. But at the same time all the events around Iran will depend on the Iranians themselves. When Russia backed the Iranian leadership, they still had some hope, but now even Russia votes against Iran.”

Asked about the positional military solution to the Iranian issue, Shevardnadze said that “nothing should be excluded.”
