Turkey will continue seeding hatred towards Armenians in elementary schools

A Turkish court has rejected a case filed by the Hrant Dink international foundation against the Turkish Ministry of Education.

The foundation named after the slain Armenian-Turkish journalist Hrant Dink requires that that showing of Sari Gelin: The True Face of the Armenian Cause in Turkish elementary schools be stopped.

This is a documentary that Turkish authorities effectively use by showing it in Turkish elementary schools in an attempt to seed hatred towards Armenians and distort the essence of the Armenian Genocide.

The complaint mentions that the film runs counter to the creation of democracy and tolerance - one of the main objectives of education - and therefore negatively affects the psychology of the children.

Ironically, the court has ruled that the "film is absolutely informative."

Fethiye Cetin, one of the lawyers of the Dink family said that they would appeal the court's ruling.

"This documentary reflects a one-sided viewpoint. If shown to adults they can judge the content of the film. But the film is being shown to children still in elementary schools; they are not at the age to be able to make their own judgments [about the film]. There are such scenes in the film, skulls, amputated heads, dead bodies … And that all negatively affect the children at that age and their further development [as individuals]," said Cetin.
