Iran ready to survive toughest sanctions: IRGC commander

Lieutenant Commander of the Islamic Revolution Guards Corps (IRGC) of Iran, General Hossein Salami, said Iran is prepared to survive the harshest sanctions and boycotts.

"We can resist against toughest sanctions and meet our demands," Salami said in a meeting with military attaches of foreign countries in Iran on Thursday, reports Iranian news agency FARS.

"Despite pressure and sanctions against Iran, we move forward day by day...Today the Islamic establishment is capable of defending its cultural, political and religious thoughts," he said.

Salami also pointed to the plots of the enemies of the Islamic Revolution over the past 30 years, and praised the "firm" resistance of the Iranian nation against them.

Despite the rules enshrined in the Non-Proliferation Treaty (NPT) entitling every member state, including Iran, to the right of uranium enrichment, Tehran is now under four rounds of UN Security Council sanctions for turning down West's calls to give up its right of uranium enrichment.

Tehran has dismissed West's demands as politically tainted and illogical, stressing that sanctions and pressures merely consolidate Iranians' national resolve to continue the path.
