International community helped Kosovo, while Karabakh is acting independently: Samvel Nikoyan

"I think that if the nation's right to self-determination is subject for obligatory implementation, and Kosovo has done so, then I would agree that it [Kosovo] be recognized [by Armenia], but it is due to consideration of the state policy and a bunch of problems that the Republic of Armenia has not done so. I think that the Hague court responded to all the questions [with its ruling over Kosovo]," Deputy Chairman of Armenia's National Assembly Samvel Nikoyan told Tert.am asked to comment on the fact that Kosovo has asked Armenia to recognize its independence.

Speaking about the differences between the conflicts of Kosovo and Karabakh Nikoyan said that first Kosovo is in Europe, while Karabakh is in Armenia, second Kosovo is inhabited by Albanians, while Karabakh has an Armenian population.

"There is one more difference: Nagorno Karabakh declared its independence by strictly preserving all the international laws, as well as laws that existed during the SSSR. Another difference is that the humanitarian disaster in Kosovo was prevented due to international community's military operations, while in Nagorno Karabakh it was the Karabakhi people that could prevent the humanitarian disaster and win the war thrust upon it. Besides, the international community helped Kosovo to build an independent state, while Karabakh is perfectly doing all that itself," said Nikoyan.
