Diego Maradona's future as Argentina coach is uncertain

Argentina coach Diego Maradona's future as coach of the Albiceleste is in doubt after the national team coach met with federation president Julio Grondona.

Grondona and the Argentine Football Federation [AFA] have not yet decided whether the 49-year-old will stay on as coach, or to look elsewhere for a replacement.

AFA spokesman Ernesto Cherquis Bialo told Radio La Red that Maradona expressed his feelings in regards to the "present and future and what he was expecting regarding his staff."

"The president's idea was the opposite and they discussed about that. After both parties expressed their own points of view, Grondona told Maradona that he was going to communicate his requirements to the members' executive committee."

Reports suggest that one of Maradona's assistant, Oscar Ruggeri, has been criticised after the side's quarter-final exit from the World Cup at the hands of Germany, but the 49-year-old is keen to keep him on.

Argentina take on Ireland on August 11, and the squad is set to be announced in the coming days. Should Maradona walk away from the position, Under-20 coach Sergio Batista would take over until a suitable replacement could be found.
