Blasts hit Israeli resort of Eilat and Jordan's Aqaba

Several blasts have hit the southern Israeli resort city of Eilat in a suspected rocket attack, Israeli army radio reports.

Between three and five explosions were heard in Eilat, but there have been no casualties in the city, reports say. However, one rocket also hit the nearby Jordanian port of Aqaba, injuring four people.

Eilat, which is a popular tourist resort, has largely been spared from rocket and other attacks.

In Jordan, Interior Minister Nayef Qadai told the AFP news agency: "A Grad rocket fell in the street in Aqaba, near to the Intercontinental hotel, destroying two cars and injuring four people, one of them seriously."

Israeli army radio said one rocket had also landed in the sea.

In April, rockets were fired toward Eilat and Aqaba from Egypt's Sinai Peninsula, causing no injuries. Eilat was hit in January 2007 by a suicide bomber, killing three people.

Earlier on Monday, a large explosion at the Gaza home of a senior Hamas commander injured more than 20 people. Israel has denied any involvement.

Last week, a rocket fired from Gaza by militants hit the Israeli city of Ashkelon on the Mediterranean coast.
