Normalization with Armenia essential for Turkey’s EU accession

The Armenia-Turkey rapprochement and the Cyprus issue are essential for Turkey’s EU accession, Germany’s Ambassador Extraordinary and Plenipotentiary to Armenia Hans-Jochen Schmidt said at a press conference today.

Mr Schmidt said that very often the Turkey-EU talks are speculated for various purposes.

“The Cyprus conflict, as well as the Armenia-Turkey normalization process has obtained significance now for these talks,” said Mr Schmidt.

At the same time he mentioned that it should not be forgotten that Turkey was promised EU accession yet in 1964.
