US State Department expects to get Matthew Bryza's confirmation: Philip Crowley

US State Department hopes Matthew Bryza's nomination as US ambassador to Azerbaijan will be confirmed, US Assistant Secretary of State Philip Crowley said at a briefing.

Earlier US Secretary of State Hillary Clinton had held a meeting with Chairman of the Senate Foreign Relations Committee, John Kerry and Philip Crowley.

Mr Crowley said they talked about the new START agreement, Afghanistan and Pakistan. He also said US ambassadors to Iraq, Azerbaijan and the Dominican Republic had not been confirmed yet.

"On the nominee front, we certainly are anxious to get our nominees into positions here at the State Department into key ambassadorships ... We do expect to get a number of confirmations through the Senate on August 5. We hope, including Jim Jeffrey, to be the ambassador in Baghdad, and Matt Bryza as well. We have a number of deserving candidates who hope to get on the job as quickly as possible," Philip J. Crowley said.

The vote on Matthew Bryza's appointment as US ambassador to Azerbaijan was postponed at the Senate Foreign Relations Committee upon the objection of Senator Barbara Boxer.
