Armenia extends the duration of Russian military base in Gyumri

Armenian Defense Minister Seyran Ohanyan and his Russian counterpart signed today a protocol that allows to make amendments to an existing agreement signed in 1995regulating the presence of Russian military base in Armenia's second-largest town of Gyumri.

The protocol was signed after Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan and his Russian counterpart Dmitry Medvedev held negotiations in Yerevan in the framework of Mr Medvedev's two-day state visit to Armenia.

The duration of the previous agreement was 25 years but now it will last 49 years instead (counting from 1995).

The Russian military base in Gyumri has C-300 anti-missile defense systems, MiG destroyers and about 5000 personnel.
