The Opening of the Armenian-Turkish border runs counter to the interests of Turkey and Azerbaijan, Head of Social and Political Department of the Azerbaijani Presidential Administration Ali Hasanov told journalists.

"Opening of the Armenian-Turkish border meets neither the interests of Turkey nor Azerbaijan," he said.

Earlier, it was reported that Turkey does not exclude the possibility of a partial and temporary opening of the Turkish-Armenian border Sept.11- 17, 2010 as part of NATO relief exercises planned in Armenia. But Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu denied this information.

Hasanov believes it can also lead to that Armenia will continue to keep to what he called “an unconstructive position” in the negotiations.

"We have brought this attitude to the attention of the Turkish officials. Prime Minister Recep Tayyip Erdogan and President Abdullah Gul have repeatedly stated that the Turkey-Armenia border will not be opened until Armenia comes to a constructive position on the Nagorno-Karabakh. We believe in the Turkish officials and we believe the border between Armenia and Turkey will not be opened until all the conditions are fulfilled," Hasanov said.

Turkey cut diplomatic relations and closed down the border with Armenia in solidarity with Azerbaijan in the 1993 Karabakh war.
