Climber names summit after Charles Aznavour

A Ukrainian climber has named a summit in the Pamir Mountains after the renowned French-Armenian singer Charles Aznavour, reports Analitika.at.ua.

Sergei Kaifadjyan has said that the 5250 meter-high peak which has never been climbed on before will be named after the French-Armenian chansonnier.

Mr Kaifadjyan has placed a souvenir on the summit depicting Charles Aznavour.

Earlier Mr Kaifadjyan had climbed another peak (5495 meters) and named it "Armenia."

Charles Aznavour was born as Shahnour Vaghenag Aznavourian on May 22, 1924 in Paris. A French-Armenian singer, songwriter, actor, public activist he is also a diplomat representing Armenia in Switzerland. Besides being one of France's most popular and enduring singers, he is also one of the best-known singers in the world. Aznavour is known for his unique tenor voice; clear and ringing in its upper reaches, with gravelly and profound low notes.

He has appeared in more than 60 movies, composed about 1,000 songs (including 150 at least in English, 100 in Italian, 70 in Spanish, and 50 in German), and has sold well over 100 million records.
