Iranian official denies his statement on Armenian Genocide

Iranian Vice President Hamid Baghaei has commented on recent reports in which he allegedly claimed that what happened to Armenians in 1915 constituted genocide.

According to the Turkish daily Zaman in a specially convened news conference on Sunday Mr Baghaei denied the reports, requiring correcting what he called the "wrong information."

"It doesn't matter which country's mass media have disseminated that news. We require that it be corrected. We are waiting for our official statement's release. We are stating that they have done a wrong thing," Mr Baghaei was quoted as saying, calling on mass media to avoid disseminating 'false information.'

Earlier the Iranian news agency IRNA quoted Mr Baghaei, saying that the Ottoman Empire committed genocide against Armenians in 1915 which made Turkish Foreign Minister Ahmet Davutoglu call his Iranian counterpart asking clarification.

"Ottoman Empire committed genocide 100 years ago, in 1915, and today when the Ottoman Empire does not exist, the Armenian Government demands an official apology and compensation from today's Turkey," Mr Baghaei had been quoted as saying.
