UN resolution on Karabakh won’t have significant impact on negotiations: Gagik Minasyan

The adoption of the draft resolution by the UN General Assembly over Nagorno Karabakh will significantly affect neither the Karabakh settlement nor the stance of the OSCE Mink Group co-chair countries over this issue; MP from the Republican Party of Armenia Gagik Minasyan told a press conference today.

On September 9 Azerbaijan will reportedly submit a draft resolution to the UN General Assembly regarding the conflict of Nagorno Karabakh.

“Like similar previous attempts this one will not have any significant impact on the negotiation process either,” said he, adding that this initiative by Azerbaijan is bound to failure.

“It is unacceptable not only for Armenia, but obviously also for the international community, particularly for Russia, France and US,” he explained.

Further Mr Minasyan said he attached much importance to Armenian President Serzh Sargsyan’s recent visit to Nagorno Karabakh where he said that Karabakh’s return to Azerbaijan is excluded and that Karabakh has declared its independence and what remains to be seen, is the international community to accept this reality.

“Both NK’s and Armenia’s authorities should do their best so that to push that issue forward,” he added.

Speaking about the defense pact recently signed between Armenia and Russia he said that the main safeguard of Armenia’s and Karabakh’s security is, has been and will remain the Armenian soldier.

That agreement, according to him, decreases the probability of a new war.

“The resumption of that war under these circumstances is being decreased significantly,” said Gagik Minasyan.
