French actor Gerard Depardieu visited Genocide memorial and paid tribute

Prominent French film actor Gerard Depardieu, who is currently in Armenia in the framework of the Karot festival, paid this morning a visit to Tsitsernakaberd - the memorial complex erected to the victims of the Armenian Genocide perpetrated in the early 20th century by Ottoman Turks.

Mr Depardieu placed white pinks near the eternal fire and paid tribute to the memory of the victims by a minute's silence.

The French actor was accompanied to Tsitsernakaberd by Metso Igityan, the Director of the Karot festival.

Mr Depardieu will later hold a meeting with President Serzh Sargsyan and Chairperson of the National Assembly Hovik Abrahamyan.

The Karot festival kicked off on 2 September in Stepanakert, the capital of Nagorno Karabakh, and currently continues in Yerevan.

The festival aims at preserving the Armenian culture in the Diaspora and to present it to the world.
