Government to raise retirement and social benefits

In a Government session held today Armenia’s Minister of Labor and Social Affairs Arthur Grigoryan asked the Government to allot additional funds for the ministry to pay social and retirement benefits.

The money, as he put, is aimed at easing the possible consequences of the recently increased gas tariff for the socially vulnerable layers of the Armenian society.

The sum required is 3.2 billion drams which is planned to be used for increasing the retirement benefits since 1 November.

Prime Minister Tigran Sargsyan said that some steps had already been taken since the beginning of the year. In his words, 104 families receive now raised social benefits.

“We have promised to raise the retirement benefits since 1 November; now we are allocating that financing,” said Mr Sargsyan.
