Armenian smugglers use sophisticated methods

Armenians have perfected the methods used to smuggle goods into the country, Head of the Department of the Fight against Smuggling and Double Smuggling Control at the State Revenue Committee, Samvel Sanamyan told a press conference today.

Namely, Armenian citizen Yeranuhi Shahnazaryan tried to smuggle 40 gram opium from Iran this year by using her own body as a hiding place. Another smuggler had tried to use the comb to smuggle 26 gram opium.

Further Mr Sanamyan said that there have been 71 occasions of smuggling against the 121 during the same period in 2009.

Eight attempts to smuggle food stuff have been registered since January this year. According to him, these attempts mainly refer to goods with expired dates of preservation which the SRC associates and the police have confiscated and eliminated.

Twelve occasions have been registered and 4 million drams imposed as fines related to attempts to smuggle car spare parts.
