Witness accounts on what happened to Armenian journalists at Ataturk Airport

Armenian journalists, visiting Turkey to attend a regional conference, have been subjected to unnecessary check-up at the Ataturk Airport in Istanbul.

Head of Yerevan Press Club Boris Navasardyan, who is also attending that conference, told Tert.am that about twenty Armenian passengers have been subjected to additional check-up by Turkish immigration service.

Particularly, the Turkish immigration service asked the Armenian passengers to show proof of sufficient funds for accommodation and return to Armenia.

According to Mr Navasardyan only the passengers from Armenia were checked.

"Among them were also four of a group of journalists invited by the Hrant Dink Fund. Though the fund's representative, who accompanied the group from Yerevan, had informed them about the identity of those four [journalists], the Turks servicemen continued to demand that the journalists show the cash they had and prove that they have [booked] hotels, etc.," said Mr Navasardyan.
