Ashot Gabrielyanov's company is suing Mail.ru

Russian News Media-Rus Company has filed a lawsuit against Mail.ru accusing the latter for having unlawfully used its photos, reports Interfax.

The case relates to the wedding photos of Garik Kharlamov, one of the permanent residents of Comedy Club.

According to Ashot Gabrielyanov, the executive officer of News Media-Rus, that photo is the property of the company.

The plaintiff has asked 300,000 Russian rubles in compensation.

Mr Gabrielyanov also said this was not the first time the company has sued other companies for unlawfully using their materials.

Previously it had won three cases over similar charges lodged against Trud and Metro newspapers and Zvezda TV channel.

The company has filed another lawsuit against Spiegel magazine.

"We have declared a war against those who copy-paste, those companies who are illegally using our content, especially for commercial purposes" said Mr Gabrielyanov.
