Karabakh conflict should be resolved with goodwill and peace, says Iranian FM Mottaki

The Nagorno-Karabakh conflict should be resolved in a spirit of goodwill with strong political will and a serious approach, Iranian Foreign Minister Manouchehr Mottaki said at a press conference with his Armenian counterpart Edward Nalbandyan, the FARS news agency reported.

Mottaki noted that Iran stands for restoration of peace in the region.

The conflict between Karabakh and Azerbaijan began in 1988 when Azerbaijan started pogroms in an attempt to subject the Armenian population in Karabakh, as well as many Azerbaijani territories to ethnic cleansing.

According to Mottaki, Iran holds transparent attitude in regard to Azerbaijan and Armenia and is ready to contribute to Baku and Yerevan in resolution of the conflict.
