Last chance for opposition to hold early elections, or else it will fail rally

The September 17 rally to be held by the opposition movement Armenian National Congress (HAK) will fail, should the HAK not implement its long-trumpeted calls to hold early elections in Armenia, politologist Hmayak Hovhannisyan said at a press conference today.

"I have said it yet a few months ago, that if HAK's upcoming rally is not part of a continuous process, but rather a one-off event after which the people will be left into outage, the rally will fail," said he.

According to Mr Hovhannisyan, HAK is making promising statements which give him hope. Besides, he is sure that this is a last chance for HAK to use to hold early elections or else it will not have any other chance in the future, as next year next presidential elections will be staged in Armenia.

Attending also the press conference MP from the Republican Party of Armenia Mkrtich Minasyan said he had another view of those statements promising 'surprises' during the rally.

According to him, they are what he called "political tricks" aimed at attracting more and more masses of people to the rally.

"That is a usual method in political technologies," said he.
