Political elite did its best to fail the appreciation of independence: Tigran Paskevichyan

During 19 years of independence Armenia's elite spared no effort to fail the valuation of that independence, famous Armenian publicist and blogger Tigran Paskevichyan told Tert.am.

"The idea of independence should first of all have been appreciated by the perception of the ideas of freedom and democracy. But the experience of all these [past] years showed that our simple people understand well the necessity of both freedom and democracy, while the elite, I mean not only the political figures, but also the intellectuals, public figures, [who], disguised under national problems, did their best so that the independence of our country would not be evaluated through freedom and democracy," said he.

Further Mr Paskevichyan mentioned that during all these years of independence the people have taken to the streets to defend their rights, their freedom, but they have always been stopped.
