Swedish MPs backing Armenian Genocide Resolution fail re-election

Swedish MPs of Turkish descent, who backed the Armenian Genocide Resolution at the Swedish parliament (Riksdag) earlier this year, have failed to be re-elected, reports local Turkish daily Zaman.

According to the newspaper, among those MPs are Yilmaz Kerimo from Social-Democratic Party and an Assyrian by nation and also Gulan Avci from People’s Party, a Kurdish national.

The G-Resolution had also been backed by Ibrahim Baylan, who was also born in Turkey. But the Turkish source does not mention whether or not he was re-elected.

With a preliminary counting of the votes the distribution of the 349 parliamentary mandates at the Swedish Riksdag will be as follows: 173 seats will go to the 4 parties that have formed a coalition with the authorities, 156 seats will go to the opposition, while the Swedish nationalists will have only 20 mandates at the parliament.

On 31 March earlier this year the Swedish parliament narrowly voted for the adoption of the Armenian Genocide Resolution (131-130).
