Yerevan Municipality rejects HAK’s request to authorize rally on Azatutyun Square

Yerevan Municipality has once again rejected a request filed by local Armenian opposition movement Armenian National Congress (HAK) to permit it holding a rally on Azatutyun (Liberty) Square on October 13.

Talking to Tert.am HAK activist Tigran Arakelyan said the request had been submitted to Yerevan Municipality but the latter has failed to send the response within 72 hours – something obligatory by the law.

“The 72-hour period defined by the law expired at 9:15 am this morning, but the Municipality had not responded us by then. Just a while ago the response to our request was brought to the HHSh office [Armenian Pan-National Movement Party], rejecting it without any reason. The Municipality’s response does not mention any reason, and it suggests holding the rally in Matenadaran’s territory. The fact that the Municipality did not reach its decision within 72 hours, the law allows us to say that it has taken the holding of the rally into account,” said Tigran Arakelyan.

HAK’s attempts to hold a rally on Azatutyun Square are implemented in the framework of one of its claims about “reconquering the Azatutyun Square.”

HAK’s last rally took place on September 17 on the hilltop area of Matenadaran and ended with a march.
