Azerbaijani Armenian files his candidacy to Azerbaijani parliamentary elections

Grigori Ayvazyan, an Azerbaijani-Armenian and Chairmen of the Assembly of Azerbaijani Armenians, has submitted documents to Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission, that way his candidacy to the up-coming parliamentary elections.

In a press conference today he also said he had sent e-mails to Azerbaijan’s president and foreign minister.

“Based on democratic principles we require Azerbaijani-Armenians’ participation in those elections. From all the platforms Azerbaijan declares that elections in Karabakh are illegitimate because Karabakh’s Azerbaijani community doesn’t take part in them,” said he adding, that Baku ignores the fact that the 1 million-strong Azerbaijani-Armenian community has not since 1990 been able to participate in any pan-national election.

Even more, should he be denied chance to take part in them, then these parliamentary elections – much in the same way as the previous ones – will be deemed as unlawful and null and void.

“Azerbaijan should register us and provide with written international guarantees so that we can enter Azerbaijan,” said Grigori Ayvazyan, adding that one needn’t necessarily have an Azerbaijani passport to be considered a citizen of Azerbaijan.

“According to Azerbaijan’s Constitution, any person born in that country is considered a citizen of Azerbaijan’s Republic. Only the birth certificate proving the fact you have been born in Azerbaijan is enough for one to be considered an Azerbaijani citizen,” he explained.

Further he said he can easily participate in Azerbaijan’s parliamentary elections as he has quite as much capabilities as the Azerbaijani President Ilham Aliyev born from a marriage by an Armenian and Kurd.
