Karekin II conveys Allahshukur Pashazdes' request to president Sargsyan

Director of the Information System of the Mother See of Holly Etchmiadzin Bishop Vahram Melikyan has disseminated a statement over the recent meeting of Armenia's President Serzh Sargsyan and His Holiness Karekin II, Supreme Patriarch and Catholicos of All Armenians over the return of Mubaris Ibrahimov's body - a soldier killed in a recent Azerbaijani sabotage on Karabakh's front line.

The statement mentions that Kiril I, Patriarch of Moscow and All Russia, had passed to Karekin II the request of Shkeikh-Ul-Islam Allahshukur Pashazade, the Chairman of Caucasian Muslims, to mediate with Armenia's authorities to have Ibrahimov's body repatriated to Azerbaijan.

Mubaris Ibrahimov was killed during an Azerbaijani attack on Karabakh's outposts in the vicinities of the Chailu village, Martakert region, on 19 July 2010.

"His Holiness had a meeting with the president of the Republic of Armenia over the issue, presenting the request by the Patriarch of all Russia and the spiritual leader of Azerbaijan," reads the statement.

Further it says that Karekin II informed Kiril I about the results of that meeting, adding that the Armenian side has always been willing to repatriate the bodies of the Azerbaijani war prisoners and killed soldiers through the Red Cross while Azerbaijan has not only stopped following suit but has also started to frequently take provocative steps to penetrate into Karabakh's territory which does not contribute to the peaceful settlement of the Karabakh conflict and creation of an atmosphere of mutual trust.

"The Armenian side is ready to consider such request, if Azerbaijan too will demonstrate willingness to consider the above-mentioned issues by restoring effective cooperation committed to the requirements of the international humanitarian law," reads the statement.
