Moscow Mayor Yury Luzhkov back to work

Moscow's Mayor Yury Luzhkov who has recently come under attack by Russia's state-run media, on Sunday returned from his Austrian vacation, the reports Ria Novosti quoting Ekho Moskvy radio station.

Luzhkov, who just turned 74, left Moscow for Austria on vacation on September 19 amid a media campaign against him and his billionaire wife, Yelena Baturina.

National TV channels accuse Luzhkov of corruption and indifference to the plight of Moscow during the summer smog. Earlier this month, a documentary aired by the NTV TV channel said Luzhkov's wife, the world's third richest woman, had used her husband's position to amass her alleged $2.9 billion wealth.

The Moscow mayor is reportedly at odds with President Dmitry Medvedev. Their conflict is thought to have its roots in a September article by Luzhkov in the Rossiiskaya Gazeta government daily that hinted at criticism of the Medvedev-Putin tandem.

Earlier it was expected that Mr Luzhkov would upon his return from vacation sign his resignation letter, but he came to work as usual on Monday, and there is no report as to his resignation so far.
