Is Congress imitating Dashnaktsutyun stance?

The fact that there is no unified opposition in Armenia may help ruling authorities preserve their position, head of parliamentary faction of the Armenian Revolutionary Federation (Dashnaktsutyun, ARF-D) Vahan Hovhannisyan told a press conference today.

“The fact that there is no unified opposition in Armenia or there is no opposition at all may help ruling authorities preserve their position,” said he.

Further Vahan Hovhannisyan said that even the Armenian National Congress has changed its use of word stock and pursue quite a different one.

According to him the Congress that would initially require only President Serzh Sargsyan’s resignation, saying it would solve the entire problem, is now calling for a full change in power – something Dashnaktsutyun used to require.

“Because they have realized that when you replace only Serzh Sargsyan, then it begs the question, whom by? The answer is obvious, isn’t it, but that is not beneficial for the people, therefore a complete change in power should be spoken about, as we are doing now, but we are doing it in another context, they [the Congress] are doing in a different one” he added.
 

Mr Hovhannisyan also said that there is no significant ideological difference between the Congress and the authorities.

“When you try to understand what the ideological difference between the Congress and the authorities is, you come to see that there is no particular difference,” said Vahan Hovhannisyan.
