Ousted Moscow mayor won't bring president Medvedev to court

Ousted Moscow mayor Yuri Luzhkov will not appeal Russian President Dmitry Medvedev's decree which deprived him of this mayoral post he had held for 18 years.

In his first interview with the Russian magazine New Times after his dismissal Mr Luzhkov said he would however stay in politics.

Earlier famous Russian singer and MP for the ruling Edinaya Rossiya (United Russia) Party Yosef Kabzon, a close friend of Mr Luzhkov, had told Russian news agency Interfax that Mr Luzhkov will appeal Mr Medvedev's decree in an attempt to find out the reason of his dismissal.

Russian President Dmitry Medvedev, while on a trip to China, signed a decree on 28 September and sacked Yuri Luzhkov of his mayoral responsibilities due to what was explained 'lack of confidence.'

Lawyers say that Mr Luzhkov does not have any chances to win the case, had he decided to appeal the decree anyway as according to the Russian law the president has the right to dismiss governors without elaborating on the reasons.
