Armenia too can benefit from Georgia's economic projects, says expert

Major economic projects implemented in Georgia can be beneficial also for Armenia, Georgian expert Gia Meparishvili told Tert.am, adding that currently economic ties between the two countries are developing and the trade turnover is very much on the increase.

Mr Meparishvili said that one such project is the new railway of Baku-Tbilisi-Kars, adding that it will link Armenia to Turkey.

Building of new roads will also provide Armenia with additional links to communicate with the outside world.

"Today Armenia is a serious partner for Georgia. It has always been and will be one," said he, adding that Armenia and Georgia will still implement many joint projects.

Speaking about the Upper Lars checkpoint on the Russo-Georgian border Mr Meparishvili said it was what he called "a life route."

"That checkpoint can give Armenians a lot. First of all, it is a way that links Armenia to Russia. In that sense the route is of significant importance for Armenia. I consider it a life route for Armenia. There are other serious projects too that Georgia implements today. They will yield results in a few years time," he added.
