Bryza’s nomination on Senate session’s October 5 agenda

The nomination of the US Ambassador designate to Azerbaijan Matthew Bryza was put on the agenda of the US Senate’s October 5 session, reports Azerbaijani news agency APA, citing its own source in Washington DC.

According to the executive calendar of the Senate, Mr. Bryza’s nomination was reported by Senator Kerry on September 21, right after the Foreign Relations committee voted on the nomination.

But Mr Bryza’s nomination was not approved over his statements and activities while serving as OSCE Minsk Group co-chairperson.

In a US Senate’s Foreign Relations Committee hearing in July several Senators raised serious concerns about possible conflicts of interest involving his wife, Zeyno Baran, and gifts the couple has reportedly received for their wedding from Azeri government officials.

In a later confirmation vote in September all the senator voted for his nomination except Senators Barbara Boxer and Robert Menendez, who later placed also a hold on Mr Bryza’s nomination.
