Soldier found hung in a cellar in military unit

A new incident, what seems to be suicide, in the Armenian army has raised more questions about the atmosphere in the Armenian armed forces.

According to a release issued by Armenia's Defense Ministry, Samvel Gevorg Khachatryan, an 18-year old term soldier, was around 7pm on October 3 found hung in a cellar in the N military unit.

Private soldier Samvel Khachatryan had from September 13 been attending camp meetings in that subdivision.

An investigation is under way.

Such incidents have become of frequent occurrence in the Armenian army recently.

Similar cases taking place this summer left at least 7 people dead which prompted Armenia's Defense Ministry Seyran Ohanyan to fire 8 officers responsible for those incidents after he harshly criticized them in an August 6 special board meeting.

The Defense Ministry statement does not mention any other details as to the cause and circumstances Samvel Khachatryan was hung.
