Grigori Aivazyan’s candidacy is in line with the law, says Azerbaijan’s CEC

The participation of any Azerbaijani citizen in the elections held in Azerbaijan is in line with the law, Chairperson of Azerbaijan’s Central Election Commission Mazahir Panakhov has said.

It comes after Grigori Ayvazyan, President of the Assembly of Azerbaijani-Armenians made a statement about his intention to file his candidacy at the up-coming Azerbaijani parliamentary elections.

“That may be an Armenian, Georgian, Russian, Jew or Turk. There is nothing surprising in it,” he was quoted by Azerbaijani news agency APA as saying.

“The only condition we have is that the person must be an Azerbaijani citizen. There is no problem for Azerbaijani citizens to vote in the country, to file their candidacies in elections,” he added.
