Return Azatutyun Square to people! Young HAK activists to hold march today

Young representatives of opposition movement Armenian National Congress (HAK) will hold a march today.

It will be held as part of the HAK's demand to "re-turn" Azatutyun (Liberty) Square to the people.

Azatutyun Square near the Opera House has traditionally been used for demonstrations.

The march will start at 2:30 p.m. from HAK's central office on Koryun 19a.

"We will by all means re-conquer Azatutyun Square," said HAK's young activists.

Following the 2008 riots over the disputed presidential elections Azatutyun Square had for the recent two years been closed and was re-opened only this summer after the construction of an underground parking lot was completed.

After Azatutyun Square's re-opening the HAK has for several times asked the Yerevan Municipality to sanction a rally on the Square.

But it has rejected HAK's requests, offering to hold the rally near Matenadaran building.

The HAK held its last rally near the Matenadaran on 17 September.

The next rally will take place on October 15.
