Parliamentary factions condemn ICRC Yerevan and Baku offices for Saribekyan's death

Armenian parliamentary factions have addressed a letter to high-ranking international officials, condemning Azerbaijan over the death of Armenian captive Manvel Saribekyan in Azerbaijan.

The letter has been addressed to UN Secretary General Ban Ki-moon, Chairman of the European Parliament Jerzy Buzek, Chairman of the Parliamentary Assembly of the Council of Europe Mevlut Chavushoglu, Chairmen of the Parliamentary Assembly of the OSCE Petros Efthymiou.

"Parliamentary factions of the National Assembly of the Republic of Armenia strongly condemn the authorities of the Republic of Azerbaijan over the death of Manvel Saribekyan and require Azerbaijan to hold accountable all those guilty in Manvel Saribekyan's death in accordance with the 2nd and 3rd provisions of the European Convention on Human Rights, the Geneva conventions and the UN Convention on Harassments and Other Inhuman or Degrading Treatment and Punishment that it has ratified on December 10 in 1984," reads the statement.

Further it condemns the Yerevan and Baku offices of the International Committee of the Red Cross for "inactivity and passivity as guarantors of the preservation and implementation of the provisions of the Geneva conventions and related protocols."

"We consider the official version of suicide raised by Azerbaijan as an attempt to avoid responsibility and exercise impunity because the citizen had before the death had signs of violation [on this body]," reads the statement.
