It is Armenia to blame for international community's use of 'double standards:' expert

The death of the Armenian captive Manvel Saribekyan in an Azerbaijani prison cell recently is an irrational display of hatred and aggression, military expert Davit Jamalyan told a press conference today.

“It is simply an irrational display of hatred, irrational aggression, nothing more. The Azerbaijani society needed a victory, an achievement so that to show to its own people that those billions injected into the defense sector, are justified, and that there really is a strong army,” said he.

According to him it is impossible to deceive a whole nation in the 21st century, and Baku’s attempts to present Manvel Saribekyan as a diversionist are doomed to failure as Saribekyan did not look like a diversionist at all.

Saribekyan’s death is part of Azerbaijan’s effort to prepare is people for a fresh war, but the current geopolitical situation is not beneficial for widespread military actions, he added.

“There are many factors that do not allow Azerbaijan to pass from words to actions, but it is also obvious that it is not simply [war] rhetoric,” said he, adding that with that move Azerbaijan tries keeping the enemy’s character fresh in the society’s consciousness in an attempt to preparing it for a fresh war. “And this case is part of it,” he added.

Speaking about the reaction by the international community to the case Mr Jamalyan said: “Once again we are dealing with double standards.”

Politologist Ervand Bozoyan, who was also present at the press conference, mentioned in turn that it is Armenia to blame for the international community’s use of double standards.

Armenia, in his words, behaves poorly and is afraid of making bold statements.

Unlike Armenia, according to Mr Bozoyan, Azerbaijan blackmails the mediators. And the mediators, in an attempt to sooth Azerbaijan, which threatens them, make inadequate statements as a consequence.
