Document on Armenian captive's death gets 25 signatures at PACE

A document about the death of the Armenian captive Manvel Saribekyan in Azerbaijan has been signed by 25 delegates at the Council of Europe’s Parliamentary Assembly (PACE).

Titled “The Death of the Armenian Captive in Azerbaijan” the document has been prepared and circulated by Zaruhy Postanjyan – an MP affiliated with the Zharangutyun (Heritage) Party and a member of Armenia’s delegation to PACE.

Postanjyan’s initiative comes after Azerbaijani delegates prepared a similar document, titled “The Necessity of Returning the Bodies of Azerbaijan’s Soldier to the Country.”

In a press conference today Zaruhy Postanjyan said that of all the signatories only 6 have been Armenians, adding that the Azerbaijani document has been signed by 22 delegates of which 16 are Turkish and Azeri nationals.

According to her, both documents have been adopted at the assembly and are considered as official. All the foreign signatories were very much interested in the details of the issue, she added.

In her words, the fact that the PACE Chairman is a Turkish national (Mevlut Chavushoglu) is posing threat to Armenia who has been left behind in terms of advocacy. And this happens while Azerbaijan is using every chance to raise its issues.
