The day when HAK will enter Azatutyun Square is nearing: Levon Zurabyan

The day when opposition movement Armenian National Congress (HAK) will enter Azatutyun (Liberty) Square is close, HAK coordinator Levon Zurabyan told a press conference today.

"The day when we will declare about entering Azatutyun Square is nearing," said he, adding that the HAK will hold rallies on October 15 and 19 which will be followed by marches.

Further he said that the HAK has already turned to the Yerevan Municipality for having the October 15 rally sanctioned - but to no avail: the Yerevan Municipality has rejected the appeal.

"We have applied for sanctioning a rally on Azatutyun Square, but they have again made their illegal decision, a decision motivated by nothing: once again they illegally banned [us] from holding a rally on Azatutyun Square, illegally offered the area around Matenadaran," said Mr Zurabyan.

As part of its campaign of what they call "winning Azatutyun Square back," according to him, the HAK will continue sending non-stop requests to Yerevan Municipality and will prepare a file that will include all the rejections - a file that will one day be of help.

"When that day comes and we are fed up, and it will be clear that day that the authorities, by rudely violating the law, are sparing no effort to prevent our rally on Azatutyun Square. On that day we will convene a rally and despite the decisions of the state bodies - because we will consider that decision as illegal - and we will with all the people meet on Azatutyun Square," said Levon Zurabyan.
