Turks rebut Col. Guzeev: "We crossed the border barefooted"

Leader of Powerful Turkey Party Tuna Beklevic has made a statement, reaffirming his earlier one that they had crossed the Armenian-Turkish border via Akhuryan River.

Following his statement Andrei Guzeev - a high ranking official of the Russian frontier army currently guarding the border between Turkey and Armenia - had dismissed the reports as false, explaining that the river is impossible to cross at this time of the year.

According to Turkish news agency Cihan, Mr Beklevic has in an attempt to respond to Guzeev published a photo, allegedly proving that they had crossed the border via the river and barefoot.

"Colonel Andrei Guzeev insists that we have not crossed the Armenia-Turkey border. But there are photos proving otherwise. We have crossed the border barefooted," said Mr Beklevic, expressing hope that the next time the border would be open and they would not have to seek other ways to cross it.

"And when we come [to Armenia], we will have tea with him [Guzeev]," said he. "We don't bring enmity but rather peace and fraternity."
Mt Beklevic had said that by crossing the border they wanted to make a call on the authorities on both sides that the border should be opened.
