Azerbaijan's increased military spending exceed Armenia's budgetary incomes, says HAK representative

The military spending in Azerbaijan's 2011 budget exceed Armenia's budgetary incomes, representatives of the commission of economic affairs of opposition alliance Armenian National Congress (HAK) Vahagn Khachatryan told a press conference today.

Asked what Armenia should do in this case, Mr Khachatryan responded: "In terms of economics it is already useless to compete with Azerbaijan, but we are having the second problem - the demographic problem," said he, adding that there will be time when Armenia won't be able to do anything about it.

The fact that Azerbaijan is increasing its military spending for the next year will enable it to bring its war rhetoric into reality. But there some factors which prevent Azerbaijan from unleashing a fresh war.

"Well, there is some influence from international organizations, but there is another problem that they have too: the psychological atmosphere in their army is not at a high level. The problems that exist in our army, exist there too [but] on a large scale," said he.

According to Vahagn Khachatryan, there is one solution to the current situation: changing the political system, to walk down a democratic path and solve the problems with neighbors.
