Angelina Jolie Filming Stopped by Bosnian Authorities

Angelina Jolie’s directorial debut film’s plans to shoot part of it in Bosnia, particularly in Sarajevo and Zenica, were shut down by Bosnian authorities citing diplomatically incomplete paperwork.

The incomplete paperwork is their demand that the script be rewritten in such a way that the rape victim in the film wouldn’t fall in love with her rapist.

Bosnian press reported this route the script of the movie is taking caused outrage on families of the thousands of women raped during the Bosnian war that occurred between 1992 – 1995.

“In the film, a victim is really falling in love with her torturer,” said Bakira Hasecic who is the president of the Women Victims of War association.

Scout Film officially stated this as not being true and that the film is a love story. Angelina even offered to meet the women to reassure them.

Bosnian culture minister acknowledges that their power only covers a limited area and they cannot entirely stop the filming if done somewhere else but this permit withdrawal was their way of expressing “our disapproval of a movie which does not tell the truth and hurts victims.”
