Yerevan may lose patience over Armenia-Turkey normalization, says Richard Giragosian

Yerevan's patience is not endless when it comes to the Armenia-Turkey rapprochement, Head of Armenian Center for National and International Studies Richard Giragosian has said in an interview with Turkish news website Habervesaire.

According to him Armenia may one day lose its patience and change its policy over the issue.

"The impression is that Turkey has decided to come back to the process after the parliamentary elections to be held in that country next year. In fact, Turkey has clearly stated about it. Therefore, regardless what Armenia does, nothing will happen before the parliamentary elections [in Turkey]," Mr Giragosian has said, adding that Armenia thinks that Turkey has a weak position over the issue.

According to him, that has two reasons.

"The first is the fact, the Armenia-Turkey issue is the only topic that Russian, American and Europeans have all agreed upon. All are waiting Turkey's steps over the issue," said he adding, that currently Turkey is facing the risk of losing its credits at the international level.

"But on the other hand, my optimism over this process is conditioned by the fact that Turkey has started this process based on its own benefits, and not rather calming the United States or Europe down."
