Sargsyan, Aliyev and Medvedev to hold talks over Karabakh in Astrakhan today

Armenian and Azerbaijani presidents are due to hold a meeting today to discuss the peaceful settlement of the Nagorno Karabakh issue.

Serzh Sargsyan and Ilham Aliyev will meet in Astrakhan, Russia.

The meeting is initiated by the Russian President Dmitry Medvedev.

The last such trilateral meeting took place on June 18 in Saint Petersburg.

The conflict between Armenia and Azerbaijan over Nagorno Karabakh started in 1988 when the Azerbaijani side began pogroms against the Armenians in Sumgait, Baku and Nagorno Karabakh.

Currently peace talks over the Nagorno Karabakh conflict settlement are spearheaded by the co-chair states of the OSCE Minsk Group - Russia, France and the United States.
