Dolphinarium construction won’t distort park’s ecology and content, says Ministry of Culture
The construction of the dolphinarium in Komitas Park in Yerevan will not distort the significance of the park’s ecology and content, a statement by Armenia’s Ministry of Culture says.
It also mentions that the discontent roused over the reconstruction of the dolphinarium draw also the attention of intellectuals and representatives of culture. Consequently, the ministry turned to Yerevan Municipality for relevant information over the issue.
“Based on the clarification by the Yerevan Municipality we state that the construction of the dolphinarium on the place of a former merry-go-round will not distort the park neither ecologically nor conceptually. A large-scale tree planting will be organized here in spring, and the park will preserve its functional significance without any violation of the architectural harmony of the Pantheon,” reads the statement.
Earlier Armenian writer and publicist Vahram Tatikyan had started a hunger strike as a display of his opposition to the construction of the dolphinarium and demanded to stop it. But he quit the hunger strike shortly after he met Minister of Culture Hasmik Poghosyan, saying his demands had been met.
