Why is multiple sclrosis so common among young people in Armenia?
Like all over the world, an increased rate of nervous and cardiovascular diseases is observed in Armenia by every year. Those diseases tend to “get younger,” which according to specialists, is caused by hard “socio-economic” conditions.
On the one hand, young people nowadays have more prospects than 30-40 years ago, on the other hand, however, life has become very complicated for them, Elmira Gevorgyan, chief neurologist of Yerevan, told jounrlists today.
Specialists are concerned by the sharp increase in the number of people suffering from multiple sclerosis. The incidence of this disease has grown 20-30 times over the past 20 years. It should not be linked to the sclerosis which occurs in elderly people. This is something new for Armenia, and its causes are unknown. It has different sympotms in different people and is believed globally to be caused by some virus, the chief neurologist stressed.
According to her, the treatments methods help mitigate the disease. Although such patients live long, they may acquire disability in case they don’t get treatment at the early stages of the disease, she added.
Touching upon the most widespread diseases in our popoulation, the doctor pointed out to myocard ifnarction which commonly occurs in men and appopplexis which is more widespread among women. As a main cause of these diseases she pointed out to high blood pressure. To that end, the specialist recommended that patients having blood pressure problems permanently take medicines regularly.
