International community seeks Karabakh’s resolution through “lands in return for temporary status” formula, Aram Karapetyan

The process of the recognition of the Republic of Nagorno Karabakh should have started earlier, leader of Nor Zhamanakner (New Times) political party Aram Karapetyan told today a news conference, touching upon a draft law by Zharangutyun (Heritage) Party’s parliamentary faction that proposed to recognize Karabakh’s independence.

The politician approved of the recent delay over the voting of the draft law since its adoption could lead to regional destabilization.

“Despite the existing controversies, the international community, in my opinion, wishes to achieve NKR conflict resolution and the opening of the Armenian-Turkish border by proposing [the plan] Zurich-2. They seek to resolve the problem through “lands in return for temporary status” formula,” he said.

Member of Republican Party parliamentary group Artak Zakaryan, also attending the news conference, noted in turn that his party is against that draft as it doesn’t want to break the negotiation format.

Touching upon the alleged roadmap to be signed in Astana, he didn’t consider such possibility realistic.
