Armenia lags behind neighbors in Doing Business 2011

The World Bank has published its annual Doing Business 2011 report in which Singapore ranks first among 183 economies.

The next countries in the list are Hong Kong, New Zealand, Great Britain, United States and Denmark; all of them have maintained their last year’s records.

Canada has made progress in comparison with last year appearing in the 6th position (instead of last year’s 8th position).
Norway and Ireland appear as 8th and 9th positions respectively. The last state in the top 10 list is Australia which has recorded no changes compared to last year.

As regards Armenia, it has regressed in almost all spheres, appearing in the 43rd position (instead of last year’s 43rd).

Progress is observed only in Trading Across Borders topic ranking, where the country has improved its positions by 21 points. Such results were achieved due to simplification of certain customs procedures, as well as the introduction of electronic declaration system and a number of other legal-normative reforms.


Neighboring countries have fixed significant progress. Having improved their economic indices, Georgia and Azerbaijan have appeared in the 15th and 54th positions respectively. Iran comes the 129 country in the table. Turkey lags behind its last year’s records; this year it is the 65th country in the list.
